Greater Western Sydney has been charged by the AFL over the Lachie Whitfield scandal.
The league confirmed on Thursday the Giants would face charges over conduct "deemed unbecoming or likely to prejudice the interests or reputation" of the AFL.
The case will be heard on December 13.
GWS didn't take long to respond to the news, saying it would contest the charge laid.
The club claims the matter, involving Whitfield and two former club officials, was handled "independent of the club" and therefore it was "unwarranted and inappropriate" to sanction the Giants.
