North's new captain is hoping his coaches have the right kind of headaches this year.

Jack Ziebell told Sports Today the Kangaroos are fit and firing this pre-season, and competition for spots in the starting line-up is heating up.

"44 guys trying to fit into 22 for Round 1 becomes quite competitive," he said.

"All the guy are putting their best foot forward.

"Hopefully it gives the coaches a few headaches come Round 1."

Ziebell said teams the game might get more exciting as clubs try to emulate the Bulldogs' winning formula.

"Ball movement will be a focus for most teams - especially the fast variety," he said.

"Trying to get the ball out the back and score more quickly, which will make it more exciting for the fans this year."
