  • Anyone who had the misfortune of driving past that petrol station (as I did) will never forget. Thank God that piece of scum is now in jail for a very long time. May that poor woman rest in peace.

      • Is this simply the actions of a psychopath or is it a clear warning that society is in trouble?

Regardless of the answer there can be absolutely no means to excuse or tolerate such actions. To set a living creature alight is the act of a sub human psychopath. This action could not be justified even upon the worst criminals or even mass murderers. This is clearly a sound argument for the use of the death penalty.

But clearly the rate of hideously violent crimes is escalating at a very alarming rate. Is it the irresponsible and sometimes criminal actions of the minority within the media? There is no doubt the content that is now allowed is far more taxing on the morality of all people. When we are informed of one of the most powerful players breaking the law to such an extent yet no substantial penalty is handed down that is clearly a very large problem. How is it Murdoch has not been prosecuted to the fullest extent.

The judicial system has some responsibility but you cant make a car run efficiently if you feed it bad fuel or force it to carry more than its designed weight.

Perhaps this is a result of governments grossly overpopulating nations as a desperate means to meet costs that are becoming increasingly unmanageable. You just cant do this without also putting equal facilities in place to manage the growth. Clearly all of these issues are significant factors to whatever extent. Our governments are paid very well to ensure this never occurs.

There will always be lone psychopaths but the rate they are increasing and the extent of their depravity should be alarming to everyone. Millions believe we must take decisive action soon or suffer the consequences.

        • Hopkins is a coward of the worst kind. Enjoy your time in the big house, hopefully, for the good of the community, you'll never leave. If there was ever a case where the death penalty truly fitted the crime, this would have to be it. The torment you put that poor lady through is unimaginable.

              • No prison sentence is sufficient for what this scum of the earth did. He should be put to DEATH. No ifs. No buts. No maybes.

What a sick society we live in, where it's perfectly okay to murder innocents in the womb but not okay to terminate the life of a monster like this.

Woe to them that call good evil, and evil good!

                • This is a case for bringing in the death penalty. You can still live back in society after 30 years (life sentence) in jail. Once your convicted and on death row you will never get out.

                  • Why is a minimum term set? Life should mean life with NO possible chance of release!

                    • I'm not an advocate of capital punishment, but this story almost changes that. To think he will get a chance at parole one day astounds me. An American court would give him 125 years!
