The tell-tale signs of a liar

Date

What are the signs of someone lying to you? How do listeners tell when their partner/children lie to you?

Men tell twice as many lies as women, researchers found men tell 6 fibs a day on average to their partner, boss and work colleagues, but women come out with just 3.

The study of 2,000 Britons also revealed that the most common lie told by both sexes was: 'Nothing's wrong, I'm fine.'

Dr. Carr-Gregg, Neil Mitchell and listeners compiled a list of tell-tale signs someone is lying to you:

- Avoiding eye contact

- Unnatural eye contact, strained or aggressive

- Looking up and to the right

- Crossing legs, arms, and slouching

- stroking the back of the head

- clenched hands

- Giving answers to questions you haven't asked

- Speech hesitation, clearing throat

- Increased unpleasantness and agitation

- Repetition of keywords: 'Let me tell the truth, honestly & I swear to God'

- Abruptly changing the subject
