Rebel Wilson handed record payout in court

3AW NEWS

Rebel Wilson has been awarded more than $4.5 million in damages – an Australian record – after she was repeatedly defamed in a series of articles about her age.

The Australian actor won her defamation lawsuit against Bauer Media in June.

The whopping damages payout was handed down in court on Wednesday.

Wilson was not present in court, however, later described the verdict as the “end of a long and hard court battle against Bauer Media.”

But the costs won’t stop at $4.5 million for Bauer Media, with lawyer Justin Quill telling Neil Mitchell there were legal costs to be added – estimated at about another $3 million.

“This is a massive, massive hit for Bauer,” he said.
