Shane McInnes: Profile
Shane has been a member of 3AW?s sports team since January 2008 covering a number of events in his debut year including the Australian Open, Formula 1, Beijing Olympics, MotoGP and of course the AFL.
Shane is the youngest member of our football team, calling alongside Tony Leonard on Saturday nights, and serving as Match Day Reporter and Around The Grounds reporter throughout the AFL season.
After broadcasting local football in Geelong for two years, Shane joined the National Indigenous Radio Service in 2006 as an AFL game day reporter before making his commentating debut midway through the 2007 season.
Shane studied media at the University of Melbourne, while also completing a Graduate Diploma of Education.
What was your first job?
Working at Myer Geelong as a sales assistant in the electrical department. I can still hear it being drilled into me now? ?The customer is always right.?
What is your favourite on air moment thus far?
Commentating in Adelaide with Rex Hunt for the first time, when the Crows hosted Richmond last year. Calling footy is one thing, calling with Rex in another.
What is your most embarrassing on air moment?
I was calling just my third Saturday night match for 3AW, and when Tony Leonard threw the call to me early in the first quarter I just froze. I didn?t know where the ball was, who had it, or what I should say ? thankfully the powers that be let me back on air the following week!
If you could interview anyone (living or dead) who would it be?
Any President of the United States ? It?s the most powerful position in the world, and it would fascinating to find out the secrets behind the White House.
