Stingray attacks David Hille
Essendon ruckman David Hille's pre-season has been interrupted by a painful sting delivered by a stingray in Port Phillip Bay.
Hille was doing an extra recovery session on Sunday when he became the third AFL player to encounter a similar attack in recent times - Bulldog Jarrad Grant and Eagle Daniel Kerr were stung in 2008.
"The only complication was whether there was a part of the barb still sticking in the skin, but the plastic surgeon has cleared that up," Essendon coach Matthew Knights said on Wednesday, before adding he expects Hille to be training again for the Bombers next week.
Hille, 27, is coming off arguably his best season for Essendon. Many pundits agreeing he was unlucky to miss out on All Australian selection.
Meanwhile, Knights remains hopeful Alwyn Davey and Jason Winderlich - both players coming off serious inuries - will be available for selection in round one of the 2009 AFL premiership season.
Listen to Matthew Knights' media conference in full.
