The Mervyn Purvis Phenomenom
In the early 1990's when Bruce Mansfield and Philip Brady sat behind the wheel of 3AW's REMEMBER WHEN Program one of the segments they had was an Antiques and Collectables hour where Rick Milne would field calls from people wanting to know the value of old bits and pieces they had collected or inherited.
A young man, a relative of Rick Milne accompanied him to the studio each week. His name was Mervyn Purvis, son of Mrs Purvis who runs the Nunawading Caravan Park where Bruce resides.
Bruce and Phil would quiz Mervyn on historical events, people and places and were Amazed by his general knowledge. Mervyn was spurred on by this newfound respect and studied hard to be prepared for any question Bruce and Phil would throw at him.
In around 1994 or 1995 Mervyn was rewarded by having his own segment bestowed upon him. The Mervyn Purvis Kwick Kwiz. A segment that still occurs each Sunday evening at 8.55pm on Bruce and Phil's Remember When.
