Neil Mitchell has been tipped off to multiple violent incidents on Melbourne’s local footy fields at the weekend, highlighting what several callers say is a culture of thuggery in the sport.

3AW Mornings’ phones were sent into meltdown on Monday following a call from Karen about a clash on Saturday between Sanctuary Lakes and Braybrook.

Ambulances were called to both the senior and reserves games, which were both abandoned.

“It was the most grotesque thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” Karen told Neil Mitchell.

Several callers then phoned in to report on the under 17s Eastern football league grand final between East Burwood and Rowville Knights.

They said that match was also marred by violence.
