Former top cop Kel Glare has called on Victoria Police to use water cannons to disperse protests similar to the ones that stormed an Israeli-owned restaurant on Friday night.

He told Tony Jones that the method was a safe and effective way to move on protestors, without resorting to rubber bullets.

“The real answer to demonstrations…is Victoria Police (using) water cannons to disperse people safely and quickly,” he said on 3AW Drive.

“Water cannons are very effective; they would have solved the problem in a matter of minutes.”
