EARLY BREAKING RUMOUR FILE

Wild scenes have broken out at a junior football match at the weekend, with police now investigating an affray.

Ross and John’s Rumour File has been told umpires were attacked by angry spectators at the Hoppers Crossing football ground.

And more than 10 minutes of footage seen by 3AW shows parents scuffling and yelling abuse in the aftermath.

It’s believed tensions tipped over when two consecutive 50-metre penalties were paid to Point Cook late in the Bulldogs’ under-15s grand final against Albion.

Point Cook goaled and won the premiership.

It is alleged the umpires were set upon soon after.

Footage of the aftermath shows adult scuffling and yelling abuse.

The person filming the footage, which was posted to Facebook, describes it as “genuine carnage” and “shocking”.

3AW has no reason to believe anyone in the footage is part of the police investigation.

Witnesses told Ross and John they saw spectators hit.

“I saw him get hit twice,” Steven alleged.

“All the umpires started running off and people started chasing him.

“It was quite frightening. The guy would’ve been absolutely terrified.”

Another witness, Ed, said a scuffle broke out as early as the first quarter, suggesting match organisers should have been more prepared.

Ed: “There was no security whatsoever.”

Ross Stevenson: “The day you need security at a junior footy match is a pretty sad day.”

Police have confirmed they are investigating an affray that occurred at a Hoppers Crossing football match yesterday afternoon about 4.30pm.

No one was seriously injured and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information or footage of the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
