Neil Mitchell takes aim at John Setka’s CFMEU rally ‘threats’

Tom Elliott

Police must investigate comments by CFMEU boss John Setka at yesterday’s CBD rally against the federal government’s Australian Building and Construction Commission, says Neil Mitchell.

Setka told the crowd his union will “expose” the ABCC inspector to community groups and neighbours, and make their children ashamed of them (more here).

“What happened yesterday was outrageous,” Neil said.

“He is not entitled to threaten people.

“Take on the Turnbull government if you like, but not the workers.

“You claim to represent workers? Well, these inspectors are just workers.

Neil said three things must happen:

  1. The police must investigate it. It amounts to a threat, in my view.
  2. Decent people in the CFMEU must stand against Setka and this obscene thuggery.
  3. If John Setka really didn’t mean it, he should apologise and withdraw.

“Maybe there’s a role here for Daniel Andrews.”
