New research has found women who have a heart attack are more likely to have delayed treatment and have a greater risk of dying than men.

Dr Lisa Kuhn, from the Centre for Quality and Patient Safety Research at Deakin University says both genders experience it differently, with omen presenting it ‘less dramatically.’

‘Over a longer period of time they get aches and pains, extreme fatigue and some shortness of breath,’ Dr. Kuhn told 3AW Breakfast.

‘But they don’t experience that Hollywood heart attack we have come to see.’

She said despite women experiencing more heart attacks than men, it is still the number one killer across the country.

‘The faster the person can get treated, the more we can do about it.’
