‘100 degrees’: Why councils are forcing residents to rip up fake grass
A story out of Queensland has left a local council in hot water, following an anonymous report from a neighbour.
A resident was forced to rip up her fake grass that had been on her property for almost five years.
Press PLAY to hear the ins and outs of fake turf versus councils
National Turf Alliance co-founder Garnet Brownbill spoke with 3AW Afternoons host Tony Moclair, telling listeners that issues surrounding fake turf usually boil down to health and safety risks.
“The synthetic turf is known to get extremely hot, it’s been recorded above 100 degrees and if your neighbour’s kids run across and they suddenly ended up with second- and third-degree burns. Who do they go after? The council,” Brownbill said.
Restrictions on fake grass are now on the rise in other states around Australia, including Victoria, with Maribyrnong and Hume now imposing rules on where it can be placed.
