A 15-year-old boy is dead and two other teens are fighting for life after a horror smash at Sunshine West.

The unlicensed 15-year-old driver lost control of an unregistered sedan about 10pm on Monday night, smashing into a tree on Oldfield Road.

He died at the scene, while three of his four passengers – some not wearing seatbelts – had to be freed from the wreck.

A 13-year-old and 16-year-old remain in a critical condition in The Alfred hospital.

A 17-year-old is in a serious condition, while a fourth teenager is listed as stable.

Friends of the victims have laid flowers and messages of sympathy at the scene.
