More than 2000 properties were without power on the Mornington Peninsula on Wednesday.

United Energy listed properties offline in Mornington, Somerville and Tyabb.

The cause of the outage is still under investigation.

3AW listener Greg said he spotted a bright light in the sky while travelling between Frankston and Rosebud, just before the power went out.

‘I slowed down because it was so amazingly bright,’ said Greg.

‘Then I’ve just seen this, you know when you have a sparkler and you twist it really quick, and it leaves that residual light.

‘I saw a zig zag in the sky I don’t know how far away it was, or where it was.’
