Was the 2017 Australian Open the best sporting event in Australia in the past 12 months?

Speaking with 3AW’s Neil Mitchell, Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley says ‘We had an event that probably had the widest global reach that any event has had outside of the Olympic and Commonwealth games’.

With over 1 million Victorians tuning in to watch the Federer v Nadal final, the 2017 Australian Open received substantial international attention, ‘It’s in January, there’s not much else out from a global perspective and this year we got lucky with some of the fantastic matches’ Tiley noting that fortunate fixturing played a large part in this years success  ‘We know there was more interest than ever before because of our finals’.
