State government modelling has revealed power prices will increase by about four per cent, following the closure of the Hazelwood Power Station.

The Latrobe Valley has been left reeling in the wake of yesterday’s news Hazelwood will close in March next year, with 750 jobs to go.

Premier Daniel Andrews told Neil Mitchell while the modelling around any increase was ‘solid’ there were no guarantees.

‘Experts tell us wholesale price will go up, and that will be passed on to households. Our modelling says about 85 cents a week,’ he told Neil Mitchell.

The Andrews Government has since announced a $266 million bail out package for the community.

He said there were some significant challenges ahead for the community, and unemployment in the region.
