3AW caller breaks down on air after revealing devastating story relating to her dog

Caller Mel has broken down on 3AW Drive after telling the story of her critically ill dog, who needed urgent care.
Mel took her dog to the Lort Smith Animal Hospital, but a vet shortage left her in a terrible situation, with her dog passing away soon after.
“I begged them to keep him there,” Mel told Jacqui Felgate.

Mel said the nursing staff and the vets who helped her dog were “remarkable”, but admitted “Victoria is falling apart”.
“It just goes to speak volumes about what’s happening in the state, that we can’t even get care for our animals,” she said.
CEO of the Lort Smith Animal Hospital, Frances Mirabelli, sent her condolences to Mel, stating it’s a “heartbreaking situation”.
“The situation is quite dire with vets and vet nurses at the moment,” Ms Mirabelli said.
