3AW Drive host Tom Elliott has taken aim at a ‘ridiculous’ statement made by Australia’s highest-ranking Muslim following the Paris terror attacks.

Australia’s Grand Mufti, Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohammed, expressed his sorrow in a statement before going on to say that factors such as racism and Islamophobia needed to be addressed to stop the problem.

Tom Elliott couldn’t believe it, saying the statement had done Islam ‘no favours’ and was a mistake.

‘It’s ridiculous,’ he said on 3AW Drive.

‘The Imam is blaming racism and Islamophobia against Muslims for terrorism.

‘But nowhere does he even admit that quite possibly within Islam there is something there to blame.

‘Every time I read this, I get more angry.’
