In honour of The Australian Open, for this week’s edition of Your Town 3AW Drive visits Melbourne’s Olympic Park.

Tom Elliott says he remembers having his school swimming carnival at the old state swimming centre, which is now an art gallery, ‘In 1984 I competed in the APIA sports, in the shot put, and I think I may have been in a heat of the 1500 metres.’

Program reporter Alyssa Allen spoke to a few tennis goers down at the precinct, a man named Sammy remembers seeing Marcos Baghdatis and Lleyton Hewitt’s mega four and a half hour tennis match.

Two former balls boys, Hugh and Lucas, tells Alyssa they remember enduring a 40 degree heatwave, ‘They said it was worth it just to see Serena Williams.’
