This morning, Neil Mitchell received a call from Scott who tipped him off to long delays for birth and marriage certificates, and concern among marriage celebrants who haven’t yet received their annual registration invoices.

3AW journalist and marriage celebrant Jordan Tunbridge told Neil Mitchell marriage certificates in Victoria “take a lot longer” than in other states.

“I’m also waiting for a birth certificate for my daughter born in May — we’re now in August,” he said.

Press PLAY to find out more about the delays

In a statement, the Attorney-General’s Department said it’s delayed the issue of annual marriage celebrant certificates “as a result of technical issues”.
