3AW talkback caller tells Robert Doyle he’s starring in Scientology ad campaign
Robert Doyle today found out he’s starring in a new Scientology ad…
… thanks to a 3AW caller.
And the Lord Mayor wasn’t impressed.
Caller Trevor saw Mr Doyle’s cameo in the ad while watching a television documentary on the controversial religion.
‘I’m not trying to ambush you, but I am concerned,’ Trevor said.
‘You’re front and centre.’
Robert Doyle: ‘I’m not aware of that.’
But he knew exactly where the footage came from: While opening the Ascot Vale church several years ago alongside friend Kate Ceberano, who is a Scientologist and asked Mr Doyle to come.
‘I tend to be a very loyal friend, so I agreed to attend for that opening,’ Mr Doyle said.
‘If I had my time again I might do things differently.
‘I said at the time it’s not an endorsement of the religion, it’s loyalty to a friend.’
Unfortunately for Mr Doyle, the 3:27-mark of the ad below certainly positions Mr Doyle as an endorsee.
‘So significant is the opening of an Ideal Church of Scientology to its surrounding community, the events are attended by religious leaders scholars, elected officials, and local luminaries,’ the narrator says in the video, which was uploaded last month and has had more than 10,000 views.
