3AW’s Patti Newton among Queen’s Birthday honours
3AW’s Patti Newton is among one of a number of prominent Victorians who’ve made the Queens Birthday honors list.
Of the 900 Australians being recognised today, 15 have been appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia, the highest of the honours.
Patti, a weekly co-host on Nightline with Simon and Phil, received her AM for significant service to the broadcast media as an entertainer and presenter, and as a supporter of charitable and medical research foundations.
Award-winning actor Cate Blanchett has been recognised for her service to the performing arts as well as her support for humanitarian and environmental causes.
Qantas boss Alan Joyce has been honoured for his service to the aviation transport industry as well as his support for gender equity, inclusion and diversity and support for indigenous education.
Others include the Lord Mayor Robert Doyle, cricketer Jim Higgs and comedy writer Mike McColl-Jones.
Ross and John spoke with McColl-Jones about his gong, and his thoughts on the state of Australia TV comedy.
