5000 Victorian homes are without power due to damaging winds

5000 homes are without power in the state’s west.

Wind gusts of 90 kilometres an hour have swept through Ballarat, bringing down trees and leaving thousands of homes without power.

SES crews have responded to a number of reports with affected areas including Soldiers Hill, Black Hill, Ballarat North, Ballarat East and Central Ballarat.

Powercor spokeswoman Melissa O’Neill says five thousand homes are without power as work is done to restore electricity.

‘We have had lightning activity and trees down on lines that have caused an outage across the Ballarat region,’ says Ms O’Neill.

‘We’ve got crews out at the moment trying to work as quickly and safely as they can to get our customers in the region back online as quickly as possible,’ Ms O’Neill tells 3AW News.
