$50m for WHAT?! Something in the federal budget made Ross’s head fall off

That said, there was one item in today’s 100 million newspaper pages of budget coverage that made his head fall off.

• $50 million over the next four years to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Captain Cook’s landing

“WHAT?! How do you spend $50 million on that?”

“How much does it cost to hire a bloke in tight white strides, put a flag in his hand and have him jump off a tinnie?!

“Re-enactment, a statue, a couple of boats…

“I could do it for less, don’t you worry about that.”
