Report into Phillip Hughes’ death released
A report into the death of cricketer Phillip Hughes has been released, saying the treatment the batsman received after being struck in the neck was appropriate.
The report also found the helmet he was wearing would have offered no protection in the area where the ball struck the 25-year-old, but said current neck guards would prevent a similar tragedy.
The independent review also suggested helmets be mandatory for fielders close to the pitch and that defibrillators be available during matches.
Hughes died in November 2014 after he was hit by a ball during a Sheffield Shield match at the SCG.
