Melbourne is on track to become cheapest capital city in Australia to rent after the apartment rental market had its steepest annual fall on record.

“I wasn’t really surprised,” Dr Nicola Powell,  senior research analyst at Domain, told 3AW Breakfast.

“We’ve had a fairly high vacancy rate in Melbourne.”
