Mobile pet groomers have been given the green light to operate after a Health Department backflip.

The change comes after animal rights campaigners and vets called for the grooming ban to be overturned.

Animal Justice Party MP Andy Meddick says a lack of grooming can lead to health problems in pets.

“That fur crows an becomes matted and this has an effect on skin conditions which cause lesions etcetera, so it’s actually a health issue,” he told Ross and Russel.

Mr Meddick says there’s a vet crisis in Victoria, with people leaving the job in droves.

He says forcing them to offer grooming services while groomers were closed added a burden which was “just completely unfair”.
