Despite advances in technology and other retailers chopping into their turf, many newsagents have managed survive and thrive in recent years.

Ben Kearney, CEO of the Australian Lottery and Newsagents Association, told Tom Elliott “times were certainly changing” but newsagents had played their part as an essential service during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“At the moment we are certainly keeping older citizens, who maybe don’t get their news electronically, informed,” he said.
