A 22-year-old Lalor man is in hospital after a stabbing outside his Melton Crescent home.

Police have been told the man was taking out the rubbish just before 1am when he was attacked and stabbed in the back by an unknown assailant.

The offender fled.

The victim has been taken to hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.

Police are investigating the exact circumstance surrounding the stabbing
