A childcare centre in Officer, in Melbourne’s south-east, has been destroyed by fire.

The blaze broke out in Princes Highway building at about 4.30am.

It has now been contained.

The premises was empty at the time.

A community information notice has been issued for heavy smoke in the Beaconsfield, Beaconsfield Upper, Berwick, Clyde North, Guys Hill, Officer, Officer South and Pakenham areas.
