Victorian workers have branded a Supreme Court order to stop native timber harvesting in the Central Highlands and East Gippsland as a “kick in the guts” at Christmas.

The injunction, made to protect the “vulnerable” greater glider, has halted most native forest harvesting in East Gippsland and the Central Highlands.

Brad Meyer, contractor for VicForests, said the ramifications of the decision were huge.

“Good luck trying to build a house,” he said.

He also question the “vulnerable” classification of the greater glider.

“It’s thriving,” Mr Meyer said.
