Epidemiologist Nancy Baxter has shared some simple advice to best limit the chances of COVID-19 spread at your Christmas gatherings.

She said there were “little decisions” families could make that could ultimately make a world of difference.

Professor Baxter urged people to wear masks, where possible, and to consider how many people they had over at the one time.

“Nobody wants a super spreader event to happen at their party,” she said on 3AW Breakfast.

She said hosting outside, or in a room where you can open windows and doors, was preferable to inside.

Professor Baxter also suggested buying a well-fitted mask of “high quality”, which was more effective than surgical or cloth masks.

She also told Victorians to brace for a big spike in cases in the coming days.

“I think we’re going to see a pretty rapid spread of Omicron over the next few weeks,” she said.
