Numbers fly in fiery pay dispute: Firefighters accuses government of lying

Article image for Numbers fly in fiery pay dispute: Firefighters accuses government of lying

There’s confusion this morning over the latest pay offer to firefighters.

The union is accusing the government of lying, with the two parties detailing the vastly different deals.

The latest pay offer equates to $47 million dollars, a 14.7 per cent increase.

The Herald Sun this morning reported the deal was over three years, and Emergency Services Minister Jane Garrett said it’s closer to four.

But Peter Marshall from the firefighters’ union is in an entirely different ballpark.

He claimed to 3AW News the offer is over six years, and the union had rejected it.

‘It’s less than CPI,’ Mr Marshall said.

‘They keep putting out these figures that are just wrong.

‘Jane Garrett: You’ve gotta get real on this.’
