The City of Melbourne has released seven goats in Royal Park

Tom Elliott

Take a stroll through Royal Park and you’ll notice something out of the ordinary…

There are seven goats in the park!

They’re there to deal with a “significant” weed problem.

“We’re bringing the tribe of goats in to clear the weeds to preserve the rocky habitat of the White’s skink, which is a very cute little lizard,” acting lord mayor Nicholas Reece told Neil Mitchell.

The goats will remain in the park until spring, and may return if the trial is successful.

They’ll be contained in two separate fenced off areas which are moved regularly.
