There are calls for the City of Yarra to trial a program that would allow electric car users without a garage to charge their vehicles on the street.

It would require electric cables to be built into footpaths.

Tom Elliott remains sceptical about how it would work, but councillor Stephen Jolly said it had been done effectively elsewhere.

“I think it’s worth a trial,” he said.
