The ‘ridiculous’ wait for new passports for children

Tom Elliott

Parents have been left frustrated, having to wait months to get new passports for their children, putting holidays in jeopardy.

A story in the Herald Sun this morning revealed the minimum six-week waiting time for Australian passport renewals is likely to be significantly longer for children.

Caller Linda spoke to Neil Mitchell on her experience applying for a passport for her nine-year old daughter.

“I submitted my daughter’s application in July and we’re travelling next week and I still don’t have it,” Linda said.

“It’s just ridiculous.”

It was a similar situation for caller Jason, who is still waiting for his 10-year old son’s new passport since May.
