Australians are drinking less beer than they used to, with wine, premix drinks, mid-strength and non-alcoholic beers being favoured in recent times.

Decreasing beer sales annually are concerning brewery owners, but the CEO of the Brewers Association, John Preston, believes Australians are making the move to mid-strength beer and are generally drinking less alcohol.

“I think the main thing here and probably the most important bit of context is people are just generally drinking less alcohol,” Mr Preston said.

“The two biggest selling beers in Australia are XXXX Gold and Great Northern, and they’re both mid-strength beers.”
