Two people have been found dead after a house fire south-west of Melbourne.

Fire crews made the devastating discovery after extinguishing the blaze at a property on Forest Road North in Lara this morning.

Emergency services were first called to the house fire at 4.45am.

The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined and a crime scene has been established.

Detectives from the Arson Squad and a fire investigator will attend the scene this morning.
