‘Like a movie’: Stolen Jaguar spectacularly crashes in Toorak

A stolen Jaguar has split in half after crashing into a large tree in Toorak on Tuesday night.

Police say it’s believed the driver, a man in his 30s, was driving at high speed when he lost control and struck a divider at a tram stop.

The vehicle became airborne before crashing into the tree.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Toorak Road, between Power Avenue and Glenferrie Road at about 11:40pm.

The driver was taken to hospital with in a critical condition where he remains under police guard.

Investigating officers believe the vehicle was stolen from a property in Phoenix Street during a suspected aggravated burglary shortly before the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or with dashcam is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
