‘We’ll end up with another generation addicted’: VicHealth CEO sounds alarm over surge in vaping

3AW MORNINGS

The CEO of VicHealth says second-hand vape exposure is a “huge concern” and needs to be addressed.

It comes after he said there was a tripling of notifications of child poisoning in the past year from vapes or e-cigarettes.

Dr Sandro Demaio told 3AW Mornings evidence is growing at the pernicious effect of second-hand vape smoke.

“The early science around second-hand vape exposure suggests that it causes bronchitis, asthma, a bunch of other heart conditions in young people,” he said on 3AW Mornings.

“We don’t have long term data yet, these products are relatively new.

“But it is a huge concern, I think we need to do more to protect our kids and young people.”
