Melbourne bar owner explains why she docked a worker almost $300 of pay

The owner of a mini golf and sports bar says she’s received death threats and scathing online business reviews for docking the pay of a worker who spent “more than half his shift” using his mobile phone.

The worker sent social media into a spin after complaining he’d lost almost $300 in wages.

Stephanie Doyle, who owns Birdies Mini Golf and Sports Bar at Forest Hill, told Tom Elliott the worker had previously received “direct feedback” he shouldn’t be using his phone at work.

“This wasn’t the first time,” she said.
