A man has been arrested after a police vehicle was struck by a stolen tow truck at Laverton North this morning.

Officers spotted the truck on the side of Boundary Road at about 3am with a man asleep inside.

Police allege the driver woke up and attempted to drive away.

Stop sticks were deployed before the vehicle reversed into a police vehicle.

The 34-year-old driver has been taken to hospital under police guard.
