Tom Elliott

New Zealand had been battered by wild weather in recent days, with a whopping 249mm of rain falling at Auckland Airport in a 24 hour period from 9am Friday.

It was the wettest 24 hours on record at the airport.

Child psychologist and 3AW Mornings contributor Michael Carr-Gregg was one of about 300 people who were forced to sleep on the second floor of the airport.

“That’s where I spent the night and the whole of the next day!,” he told Neil Mitchell.

“We got some blankets from the staff but that was it. There wasn’t a lot of food and water.”
