Police are investigating after a boat sank at Lake Eildon.

Emergency crews arrived around 7pm to find three people on an island on the lake, two clinging to a tree in the water and another three people had made their way to shore.

Inspector James Dalton from the Water Police Squad said all eight were “extremely lucky” to have survived.

“It sank like a stone,” he said of the boat.
