The diet that changed a leading doctor’s life

Tom Elliott

One of Australia’s leading physicians says a diet shift changed his life and there’s strong evidence it can help many other Aussies, too.

Leading sports doctor Peter Brukner says he was sceptical about a low carb diet until he decided to try it for himself.

“Ten years ago I was obese and I had a fatty liver for a long time, which I now understand is a pre-diabetic condition … and a friend of mine convinced me I should try a low carb diet,” he told Neil Mitchell.

“The results just blew me away. I lost 13 kilograms in 13 weeks, I reversed all my abnormal blood tests, my fatty liver that I’d had for 10 years.”

Dr Brukner says there’s now “lots of evidence … this obsession we had with reducing fat was actually probably the wrong way to go”.
