The search for a gunman continues following a shooting in Melbourne’s west that’s left a man fighting for life in hospital.

Police have been told the suspected shooter fled a property on Meadowview Way in Cairnlea just before 2pm on Thursday afternoon.

He crashed a four wheel drive a few streets away and fled on foot.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries.

Investigators are calling on witnesses, particularly anyone with dashcam footage, to come forward.
