The family of Barry Humphries says the 89-year-old has thanked everybody for the support and good wishes and would like more and more.

The legendary comedian is in hospital amid complications from hip surgery.

Entertainment reporter Peter Ford told 3AW Breakfast the situation appears to be “very, very serious”.

“We still hold out hope … even though there are lots of signs things are pretty grim,” he told Ross and Russel.
