ASIO officers are being installed in the Defence Department to guard nuclear-powered submarine secrets.

Australia plans to acquire the submarines under the AUKUS pact with the United Kingdom and United States.

Director of Strategic Analysis Australia, Michael Shoebridge, says the risk posed by spies should be “taken seriously” and embedding ASIO agents in the department is “a very good idea”.
